Gründung der Bibliothek am 1. Juni 1965 als integriertes Bibliothekssystem mit einer Zentralbibliothek (Ausleihbibliothek) und Bereichsbibliotheken (Präsenzbibliotheken) in der Nähe der Fachbereiche und Lehrstühle.

Bis zum Neubau (Bezug geplant 2029) 4 Bibliotheks-Standorte: Emil-Figge-Bibliothek, Sebrath-Bibliothek, Bereichsbibliotheken Architektur und Bauingenieurwesen sowie Raumplanung, Universitätsarchiv der TU Dortmund, Informationszentrum Technik und Patente
